New Saturday Hours and Operational Changes

March 2020 was the 15th anniversary of our purchase of Central Animal Hospital! We are native Memphians who take pride in serving our community through animal health and have always tried to “be there” for our clients in need. Unfortunately, the national landscape of veterinary medicine has changed significantly over the past 5 years due to a shortage of available veterinarians. We have been a 2-3 doctor practice until June 2019 but Dr. Karnes has shouldered the entire load of cases since then and will continue to do so until we can find the right associate to join our practice.

Beginning Saturday, August 1, Dr. Karnes will only be available on the third Saturday of each month. Additionally, these mornings will be reserved for Wellness visits and minor medical issues such as itchy skin and ears. She will not see significantly ill patients or perform sedated procedures such as laceration repairs.

We will continue to serve our clients all other Saturdays from 8am until Noon! These Saturdays will be for technician only procedures such as nail trims and anal gland expression, purchasing parasite preventions, prescription food, and previously approved refills. We will not be able to fill prescriptions – including preventions – that do not have prior approval from the doctor. We will continue boarding pick-up and drop-off during these hours. Sunday hours will remain 4pm-5pm for boarding pick-up.

If you have a major medical issue on Saturday morning, you should proceed to an animal emergency clinic. If your pet is experiencing a minor issue and you are not sure if you need to seek medical attention before Monday, call us at 901-274-1444 and speak to the technician on duty. After hours we provide a call service called GuardianVets. GuardianVets is staffed by trained veterinary professionals who can talk you through the issue. The professional will make a recommendation based on the situation.
